چکیده

Purpose: Here, we aimed to investigate the role of connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) in peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) and to characterize the underlying mechanism of CTGF mediating adhesion. Experimental Design: A cohort of 136 CRC patient specimens was analyzed in this study. CRC cell lines were used for in vitro adhesion assay and in vivo peritoneal dissemination experiment. Recombinant CTGF protein treatment, transfection of CTGF expression plasmids, and knockdown of CTGF expression in CRC cells were utilized to evaluate the integrin a5, which served as a target of CTGF in inhibiting peritoneal

Investigating the CTGF mRNA Expression Level in Patients with Colorectal Cancer

Background: The Connective Tissue Growth Factor (CTGF) gene encoding an extracellular matrix (ECM)-associated protein and as a member of the CCN family of proteins plays a major role in fibrosis, inflammation and connective tissue remodeling in a variety of diseases including cancer. The CCN proteins are multifunctional and are involved in cell proliferation, adhesion and cell development durin...

Molecular biology of peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Peritoneal carcinomatosis can be thought of as a sequence of events that together form a peritoneal metastatic cascade. Presently our understanding of the molecular mediators that orchestrate this cascade is ill-understood. Initial tumour-mesothelial interaction appears to involve several adhesion molecules, including CD44, the Selectins, and various leukocyte associated antigens. The exact mol...

Evaluating the incidence rate of positive cytology in colorectal cancers and its relationship with local progress of the tumor

Introduction: Detection of malignant cells in the peritoneal cavity indicates the extension of cancer cells. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence rate of positive cytology in colorectal cancer and its relationship with the local progress of the tumor.  Methods: In a 2-year prospective study in Mashhad and Iran Universities of Medical Sciences, peritoneal lavage was performed on...

Evaluation of preoperative elevation of serum c-reactive protein as an indicator for prognosis of colorectal cancer

Abstract   Background : Cancer has not been elucidated in colerectal site. C-reactive protein   (CRP) is a product synthesized in hepatocytes and has been reported to be up-regulated   by such proinflammatory cytokines as interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6),   and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). The significance of a preoperative serum elevation   was evaluated using CRP as a predictive i...
